JOPLIN, Mo. – The Parkland College golf team sits in fifth place after the third round of the NJCAA Division II National Championship was suspended due to light on Thursday. The reigning-champion Cobras (+28) shot a combined score of 192 (+12) through nine completed holes at the par-72 Twin Hill Country Club in Joplin, Missouri. Parkland, as well as the rest of the top nine teams, will finish their third round tomorrow, May 20th, in the morning before all 20 teams finish the tournament in the afternoon.
 
"Today was a long day of sitting around," head coach Corbin Sebens revealed. "We started solid today and are in a good position. We need to finish strong tomorrow morning and get in a position and give ourselves a chance for the last round tomorrow afternoon."
 
Parkland began the day in fifth place, eight strokes behind leaders South Mountain Community College, and while that deficit has not changed, the Cobras have caught up to the teams in between. Parkland trails second place Glendale Community College by just three strokes after both teams completed their 9-12 holes today. Sophomore Joel Petersson (+8, T23) birdied his first two holes in his 10-hole, even par performance on Thursday to push himself into the top 25. Sophomore Corey Neville (+6, T16) and freshmen Dain Richie (+5, T13) and Roo Fenwick (+10, T29) all shot 2-over 38 on the front nine to keep the Cobras in striking distance. Fenwick went on to birdie the 10th and par the 11th before play was suspended. Sophomore Alex White (+13, NA) is currently 9-over through 12 in his second round of the tournament to round out the scoring for Parkland.
