PORT HURON, Mich.—November 20, 2025— The No. 1 Parkland College men's basketball team opened the SC4 Thumbcoast Tip Off Tournament with a resilient 91–78 victory over Marian University Ancilla College on Thursday afternoon. Playing without four key contributors due to injury, the Cobras relied on toughness, rebounding, and timely scoring to secure the win and move to 6–0 on the season.
Parkland received major interior production from its front court, as Matt Moore (15 points, 14 rebounds) and Grant Chamberlain (13 points, 11 rebounds) each recorded a double-double. Their combined presence in the paint helped stabilize the Cobras on a day the roster was stretched thin.
Offensively, Kodhi McStraw poured in a team-high 23 points, while Jaiden Martin added 20, giving Parkland two consistent scoring threats throughout the afternoon.
But the moment of the game belonged to a local standout. Monticello, Illinois native Trey Welter delivered a breakout performance off the bench, going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc for 9 points in 16 impactful minutes. His shooting surge helped Parkland separate in key stretches and energized the Cobra sideline.
Head coach John Bowler praised the team's resilience after the win:
"Obviously, we weren't at full strength tonight, but we aren't going to make excuses. We didn't play our best and have areas to clean up. On the other hand, we also are not ever going to apologize for winning in this program. It's hard to win games at any level. So when you get them, you need to celebrate them, and then push to get better. Time to turn the page to tomorrow's game."
With the victory, the Cobras advance to the second round of the tournament, where they will face No. 9 Macomb Community College at 5PM EST.
