Head Men’s Basketball Coach John Bowler Inducted to Eastern Michigan University Athletics Hall of Fame

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Parkland College Head Men's Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director John Bowler will be inducted into the Eastern Michigan University Athletics Hall of Fame on October 10, 2025, recognizing his lasting impact on EMU Athletics as both a player and a leader.

A four-year forward for the Eagles, Bowler served as team captain in his final two seasons, scoring 1,427 career points—13th in EMU history—and grabbing 801 rebounds, ranking sixth all-time. He earned two All-Mid-American Conference honors and was recognized by Sporting News Magazine as one of the nation's top Mid-Major players during his senior year. After graduation, Bowler played professionally in Germany's top league for six seasons, making numerous playoff and finals appearances.

Regarding the induction announcement and his very impressive basketball career, Bowler remarked, "I take great pride in the four years I spent at Eastern Michigan. EMU and Ypsilanti hold a special place in my heart, so this recognition means everything to me and my family. I'm looking forward to getting back to Ypsi in October to celebrate with family and friends."

Following his playing career, Bowler transitioned into coaching, first serving as the top assistant at Des Moines Area Community College for four years before taking over as head coach for one season. He later joined the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee staff for three seasons, where he was instrumental in recruiting top talent and guiding teams to competitive success.

Now entering his fourth season as Parkland's head men's basketball coach, Bowler has continued to make an impact on and off the court, leading the Cobras with a commitment to player development, academic excellence, and community engagement.

Bowler's Hall of Fame honor comes as he prepares to lead the Cobras into the 2025–2026 basketball season this winter, looking to build on past successes and guide his team toward new achievements.
