The Parkland Women's Soccer team scored twice in the opening 10 minutes Saturday as they defeated Heartland 5-0 at the Corn Crib in Bloomington. The win improves the Cobras to (7-5-2) while the Hawks fall to (1-12). The Cobras will wrap up the regular season this Wednesday when they host Southwestern Illinois in a key Region 24 showdown. The winner of the match will earn the #2 seed and an opening round bye while the loser will be the #3 seed in the upcoming Region 24 tournament.
Hannah Martinez got the Cobras on the board first as she connected just six minutes into the match, as
Beatriz Pinheiro picked up the assist. Gabi Schuster would make it 2-0 four minutes later with Pinheiro again earning the assist. Just minutes before halftime,
Nomi Veldt would find the back of the net off an assist from
Ali Hosey. Up 3-0, PC would extend their lead in the second half with goals by Pinheiro on a penalty kick and Hosey scored with just two minutes left in the game off a pass from Veldt.
