Parkland-DACC Softball start M-WAC season with split

PC-DACC Split Conference opening series
Parkland and Danville took turns pounding out victories as the two M-WAC rivals split a doubleheader to start the conference portion of the season. Parkland rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to win the opener 12-4 and Danville raced out to a 9-0 and cruised to a 17-7 rout in the finale. The split left Danville at (10-1 1-1) while Parkland stands (7-10 1-1). The Cobras are off Saturday and will return to action on Sunday with a 1:00 doubleheader at Lincoln College.

Game 1:

After three batters, DACC led 3-0 as they started the game with a home run, single, and another round tripper.  The Jaguars made it 4-0 in the second before PC struck for six runs in the 2nd. The Cobras pounded out seven hits in the inning with Ivy Nichols and Shelby Youngblood each driving in a pair. The lead remained at 6-4 until the Cobras would put the game away scoring three times in both the 5th and 6th innings.  Brigette Belt had a two-run double in the 5th while Bre Riemenschneider ended the contest with a two-run blast. Lauren Spelich had three hits and drove in two runs while five other players each had two hits as PC pounded out 16 in the win. Kirbie Mendenall settled down after a rough first two innings, blanking DACC over the final five innings to hand them their first defeat of the season.

Game 2:

The duo of Brunelle and Tatar started off game two in exactly the same fashion as both cracked home runs to stake DACC to a 3-0 first inning lead.  Danville would score six more times in the 2nd as DACC cracked their third home run of the contest, a three-run shot. Down 9-0 in the 3rd, it would be PC's turn to score six as the Cobras closed the deficit to 9-6.  PC used a combination of 5 hits and three walks to score the runs as Laura Block had a big two run single and Belt added an RBI double. Both teams scored a run in the 4th to make it 10-7 but DACC would blow the game open scoring seven times in the 5th as they took advantage of six hits and three walks.  Block finished 3-3 for the Cobras as she was the only Parkland player with multiple hits.
