SPARTANBURG, S.C.—May 20, 2026—The Parkland College softball team kept its NJCAA Division II Softball World Series run alive on Wednesday with an emphatic 8-1 victory over Cecil College.
After being shut out by the Wolves one day earlier, the Cobras responded with 14 hits and a balanced offensive attack to advance in the elimination bracket.
Parkland struck first in the second inning before erupting for 3 runs in the third and adding insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Lainey Klokkenga led the offensive surge, going 3-for-4 with a home run, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. Kaitlyn Helms added a triple and drove in 3 runs, while Ava Acton collected 3 hits and an RBI.
Maddie Gourley and Lindsey Muskopf each drove in a run, and Abbey Horeis scored twice in the victory.
Inside the circle, Lucy Fearday delivered another strong postseason performance, allowing just one run on 3 hits across 5 innings while striking out 3. Klokkenga closed the final 2 innings, surrendering only 1 hit and no runs to secure the win.
The Cobras finished with 14 hits while limiting Cecil College to just 4.
With the victory, Parkland advances to another elimination game on Thursday morning, May 21, against State College of Florida. If the Cobras win, they will return to action again Thursday night with another chance to continue their World Series run.
