The Parkland Softball team split their doubleheader on Thursday as they fell to Sauk Valley 8-5 before beating Itasca 9-1. The split leaves the Cobras at (2-8) with three games left to play on Friday.
Game 1:
In the opener, Sauk Valley scored quickly as they tallied a pair of runs in the first taking advantage of two walks and two Cobra errors.  They tallied two more runs in the 3rd to push the lead to 4-0 before PC would rally with a four spot in the bottom of the inning.
Kyliegh Basham started the inning with a double off the right field fence. Bri Riemenschneider walked and then
Shelby Youngblood hit her 1st home run of the year with a towering shot over the right field fence. This brought up
Lauren Block who proceeded to hit her 1st college home run over the left field fence to tie the game.  Unfortunately, Sauk would score four more runs over the next three innings as they swatted a pair of their own home runs. The
Cobras last run came on a RBI double by Basham driving in
Tori Witruk who had singled.
Kirbie Mendenhall took the loss on the mound , who had relieved starter
Morgan Parrish.
