Lack of hitting and several defensive mistakes plagued the Cobra Softball team on Friday as they dropped a non-conference doubleheader to visiting Kankakee, falling by the scores of 2-0 and 3-2. Â The Cobras have now scored three runs or less in 9 of their last 10 contests, winning just two of those games. Â With the losses, PC drops to (17-24) while the Cavaliers improve to (16-15). Â The Cobras take on #13 Heartland (25-8) at 1:00 on Saturday at the Corn Crib before returning home for a pair of home games on Sunday against Lincoln College (4-25).Â
Â
Game 1:
Â
The game was scoreless until the 6th when KCC would score the only two runs of the contest. Â The Cavaliers started the inning with a single and the next hitter reached base on a fielder's choice as the KCC runner beat the throw to 2nd. Following a ground out, that put runners at 2nd and 3rd, a walk loaded the bases. The next hitter grounded sharply to 3rd and the Cobras tried to get the force at the plate but the throw was wide allowing KCC to get on the board. Â Another ground ball plated a second run to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. PC would threaten in the bottom of the frame as they would get the first two runners on base, but with runners in scoring position, the next three hitters could not get a hit as PC stranded the tying runs.
Tori Witruk was the tough luck loser as she did not allow an earned run while allowing just six hits and striking out three.Â

Game 2:
Â
KCC would once again score late as they came away with the sweep in another low scoring affair.
Shelby Youngblood got PC on the board early as she cracked a solo home run in the 1st. KCC would tie the game in the third on a two out single but PC would bounce right back as they took advantage of two Cavalier errors to score a run in the 4th. Â Another two-out single, following a Cobra error, allowed KCC to tie the game in the 5th and they grabbed the lead for good in the 6th as they took advantage of a pair of walks to score the go-ahead run without getting a hit. Down a run, PC would threaten with a two-out double in the bottom of the 7th by Youngblood, but the game ended with a tapper back to the mound. Â Youngblood provided most of the PC offense in the game as she had three of PC's six hits. Â
Morgan Parrish took the loss despite allowing just four hits. She was victimized by her own wildness as she issued 6 walks and PC committed three costly errors.Â
