The Parkland College Softball team held on for a 7-6 win in the opener but were shut down in game 2, falling to Spoon River 8-1. Â Parkland is now (23-28 13-15) while the Snappers stand (25-29 12-16). Â Parkland will wrap up the #5 seed with two wins tomorrow against Lincoln Land (28-18 19-7). Â A split, or a pair of losses, would leave PC as either 5, 6, or 7 seed. Tomorrow is the Cobras regular season finale and sophomore day.Â
Â
Game 1:
Â
After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the 1st, PC erupted for six runs in the bottom of the frame. Two walks and an error started the inning and the first run came home on a
Makayla Reedy double.
Lauren Block added a two-run double , and
Morgan Parrish also drove in a pair of runs with a double of her own. The final run of the inning scored on a
Lauren Spelich base hit. Spoon River scored a solo run in the 4th and PC added a very important insurance run in the 6th on a two-out single by Spelich. Trailing 7-3 and down to their final at bat, the Snappers would start the inning with a single and follow with back to back home runs to cut the lead to just one. Â Cobra pitcher
Tori Witruk would toughen up however and she retired the final three hitters on a ground out and a pair of strike outs to seal the win. Â Parrish and Spelich each had two hits and 2 RBI in the victory.Â
