Box Score 2 TITUSVILLE, Fla. – Parkland softball split its two games on Monday, defeating Anoka-Ramsey, 11-3 (5 innings), before dropping their first game of the 2019 season to Division I Crowder, 9-1.
Now 3-1 on the season, the Cobras were led on Monday by a nine-run second inning to pick up their first win of the day.
Morgan Parrish led from both the circle and the plate, as the sophomore pitched five innings to pick up her first win of the season and also hit a three-run homer to cap the nine-run second inning.
Up next, Parkland will play a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader in Melbourne, Fla., against Eastern Florida State beginning at 3 p.m. central time. The Cobras will then have Wednesday off before concluding the trip with a pair of games on both Thursday, March 14, and Friday, March 15.
Parkland 11, Anoka-Ramsey 3 (5 inn.)
The Cobras started its second day in Florida with a run-rule victory over Anoka Ramsey in game one. Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the third, Parkland put up nine runs, highlighted by a three-run homer from starting pitcher
Morgan Parrish, and held on for the five-inning victory.
In addition to Parrish's homer and win with four strikeouts over five innings, the Cobras received multi-hit performances from
Kate Beckemeyer (2-3),
Bri Poehler (2-3, 2 RBI),
Emma Newton (2-3, 2 RBI) and
Maddie Quattro (2-3).
After Parrish tossed a scoreless top-half of the first, Parkland drew first blood in the bottom half with a double from
Bri Poehler, scoring
Kate Beckemeyer, and a fly out to center by
Emma Newton that plated Poehler.
Anoka-Ramsey responded with a pair of two-out runs in the second inning to tie the score, but the rally was short-lived as Parkland piled on nine runs to start the third.
Sending 13 batters to the dish in the inning, Parkland scored four times before making an out, beginning with two walks and a pair of singles. An RBI single from Newton and three more walks knocked the Anoka-Ramsey starter out of the game after surrendering seven runs. After a fielder's choice drove in the sixth run of the inning,
Morgan Parrish hit Parkland's first home run of the season, scoring three, to cap the nine-run frame.
Anoka-Ramsey would get one run back in the fourth, but Parrish held them off the scoreboard in the top of the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.
Parkland 1, Crowder 9 (5 inn.)
Facing an undefeated (23-0) Division I opponent in Crowder, the Cobras were unable to contain the Crowder offense, giving up six first-inning runs in route to its first loss of the season.
Despite the defeat, the Cobras knocked seven base hits on the day, including two from
Camryn Skundberg. Skundberg also drove in the lone Parkland run of the game, singling in the fifth to drive in
Kate Beckemeyer who reached on a one-out single.
Parkland's best scoring chance prior to the fifth came in the fourth when the Cobras recorded four of their seven hits. The Cobras loaded the bases with back-to-back, two-out singles from
Bella Coffey and
Bri Poehler, but were unable to push any runs across.
