Overtime Goal Costs Cobras

Champaign, Ill. — Parkland Women's Soccer fell 3-2 in an overtime battle against M-WAC foe Heartland in a home opener on Tuesday. The Cobras' slip to 0-3 overall, and 0-1 in the conference.

Heartland scored first at 5:32 in the overtime period to take the win.

Freshman Ellen Kennedy pressured the Hawks to give-up the ball which led to freshman forward Maria Jorquera scoring a late minute goal to tie the contest at 2-2 at 5:51.

Freshman goalkeeper Gabi Flores lead the way with six saves. Flores and the Cobra defense defended 16-of-19 of the shots-on-goal. Flores deflection at 19:12 in the second half saved yet another Hawk attack.

The Cobras' jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 29:06 when Maria Jorquera scored on an assist from sophomore Mary Woods.

Heartland didn't answer until 7:50 when the Hawk's Montanna Stewart scored. Their second goal came in the second half at 11:16 when Joana Aguilar scored.

Parkland only had three shots-on-goal.

Parkland is back in action against Kaskaskia at home in a noon contest on Saturday.
