No. 18 Parkland Women’s Soccer Defeats Kaskaskia College 2-1

Parkland finishes the regular season with a 9-7 record

CENTRALIA, Ill. – The No. 18 Parkland College women's soccer team closed out their 2022 regular season with a dramatic 2-1 win on the road against Kaskaskia College on Wednesday, October 19th. Freshman midfielder Lauren Schnepper scored twice in the second half, including the go-ahead goal on an assist from Cassidy McQueen with 12 minutes to go to give the Cobras the win over the Blue Angels. The victory gives Parkland its ninth of the season, the most in program history since 2016, and clinches a third-place Region 24 finish for the Cobras. Freshman goalie Hannah Null made seven saves in the win.

"What a way to end the season. I am so proud of this team and how they continue to amaze," head coach Dan Vogelsang lamented after the game. "With only 3 subs - one of which was a goalie that had to play in the field - this team showed heart and determination all night."

The Cobras (9-7) may have come into Centralia with a limited number of subs, but the team remained hopeful to end the season on a high note against a strong Blue Angels (9-3) squad. Urbana native Hannah Null made three saves in the first half as neither offense could get going and the two teams remained tied 0-0 at halftime. In the second half, freshman Lauren Schnepper put Parkland on top with an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute, but the Cobra lead would not last long as Kaskaskia equalized in the 57th. Despite fatigue setting in late, the Cobras continued to fight and finally, in the 78th minute, Schnepper found the back of the net again to give Parkland a 2-1 lead. Vogelsang's squad rose to the occasion defensively down the stretch and secured the 2-1 win over the Blue Angels.

"Everyone stepped up huge tonight and Lauren's two goals clinched the win, Vogelsang said following the win. "We are going to take a couple of days off to heal and be ready for our first postseason game next Friday.  I'm so honored to be coaching these players."

            HALFTIME
