CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Parkland College women's soccer team began its 2022 postseason run with a 4-0 win at home over conference foe John Wood Community College on Friday, October 28th. The Cobras got out to an early lead on Friday thanks to leading-scorer Faith Niebrugge's two first-half goals and Parkland goalkeepers Hannah Null and Shiann Haymaker kept the Blazers off the scoresheet with a combined 10 saves in the win.
"It was great to see this team pull together today and get the win," Parkland College head coach Dan Vogelsang said after the game. "I am extremely happy with the efforts today and how we played. Hopefully, we can carry this momentum over to Sunday and get another favorable outcome."
The Cobras (10-7) led 10 minutes into the game when freshman Faith Niebrugge received a throw in at the edge of the 18-yard box, turned, and fired a shot past the Blazers' (1-18) goalkeeper. Niebrugge was not done yet, however, as the Mattoon native extended Parkland's lead with her 25th goal of the season four minutes later, this one assisted by Caris White. In the 24th minute, White added her name to the scoresheet, finishing off a well-designed corner kick set piece to give the Cobras a 3-0 at halftime. Parkland freshman Athenais Ouairy gave the Cobras some insurance mid-way through the second half with her 16th goal of the season in the 75th minute and Parkland closed out the 4-0 win on Friday afternoon.
