Cobras Softball Splits First Conference Series

Parkland starts conference play 1-1

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PEORIA, Ill. – The Parkland College Softball team continued their winning streak in their first game on Friday, beating Spoon River 11-2 in six innings, before losing 8-4 on the road in the Cobras' first two conference games of the 2022 season. The doubleheader was played at the Louisville Slugger Complex in Peoria, Illinois due to weather-related issues. This is Parkland's 11th straight game played at a neutral site and their first loss since March 13th.

Up next, the Cobras play in Quincy, Illinois in a doubleheader at John Wood Community College on Sunday, March 27th. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.

Game 1: Parkland College 11, Spoon River College 2

The Cobras (12-13) struck first when they drove in five runs in the 2nd inning and Parkland had no trouble on offense against the Snappers, as three different Cobras hit home runs players ended the game with multiple hits. Chayse Ramey (7-6) struck out five batters and allowed just one hit in three innings and Parkland won easily, 11-2, in game one.

Casy Mandrell (2-3, 2 HR 3 RBI) broke the game open with a two-run home run in the second inning to give the Cobras a 4-0 lead, before going yard again in the top of the 6th. Lizzy Davis (1-3, RBI) and Reagan Cheely (3-4, 2 R, 3 RBI) also hit homers in Parkland's eighth straight game.

Ramey (3.0 IP, 0 ER, 5 K) earned her seventh win of the season on Friday. Emily Senjan (3.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 K) came in for relief in the fourth inning, allowing just four hits over three innings of work.

Game 2: Spoon River College 8, Parkland College 4

In the second game, the Cobras took an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning on an error by the Snappers' first baseman. Spoon River answered in the bottom of the 4th when a two-run home run put Parkland behind 2-1. The Cobras responded in the top of the 5th, tying the game, and eventually taking a 4-2 lead when Regan Cheely drove in Zoey Clark on a two-out double to center field. Spoon River would not quit, however, and the Snappers took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth on an error. Parkland could not muster up a response this time and a Snappers' three-run single in the bottom of the 6th inning put the game out of reach. The Cobras flew out three times in the bottom of the inning and Parkland dropped their first conference game of the season 8-4 in Peoria.

Chayse Ramey (7-7) made her second start of the day, striking out eight batters while allowing seven hits and four earned runs over six innings of work. Taylor Dugger (0-3, RBI), Reagan Cheely (1-4, RBI) and Madison Vogel (1-3, RBI) each drove in a run in the loss.
