Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 14 Parkland College women's soccer team bounced back in a big way on Saturday, September 10th as the Cobras cruised to a convincing 8-3 victory over Lincoln Land Community College. Parkland put points on the board early, leading 5-1 at halftime in Champaign, and the Cobras looked in control the whole way. Freshman forward Athenais Ouairy scored four times in the win as the Toronto, Ontario native now ranks 2nd in the nation in goals scored with 12. The result gives Parkland its first conference win of the 2022 season.
 
"I am so proud to see this team continue to work hard," Parkland head coach Dan Vogelsang exclaimed after the win. "I enjoy coaching these amazing athletes. They are so fun to watch."
 
The Cobras (4-1-0) took the lead on an Athenais Ouairy goal in the 5th minute and never looked back. Freshmen Lauren Schnepper assisted the Canadian on the first goal before scoring herself in the 10th. Ouairy netted her second in the 21st minute to give the Cobras a 3-0 lead. Parkland freshman Faith Niebrugge, the leading scorer in NJCAA Division II, added to her total with a goal in the 25th minute. Still, the Loggers (1-3) quickly responded, scoring two minutes later to bring the score to 4-1. Freshman Emma Obert extended the Parkland lead before the half with a rocket from 30 yards out in the 31st minute and the Cobras led 5-1 at the break. Lincoln Land struck first in the second half, scoring 15 minutes after the restart, but Parkland had the answers on Saturday. Ouairy secured her third career hat trick in style in the 65th minute when the freshmen backheeled the ball past the keeper to put the Cobras on top 6-2. The Loggers found the back of the net one last time in the 79th, but Ouairy scored her fourth of the day one minute later and Schnepper knocked in her second in the game's closing stages to give the Cobras the 8-3 conference win. Parkland goalkeeper Shiann Haymaker earned the win with a five-save performance on Saturday.
 
"We started the game out strong and were able to control the game the entire first half," Vogelsang confided after the win. "In the second half, we came out flat and tried to find our game. Lincoln Land added more defenders to prevent our attack and we struggled with finding our shots. Once Athenais made that amazing back heal shot, though, we found our game again."
