Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Parkland College women's soccer team fell behind early and was never able to climb back into it, as the Cobras lose 3-1 at home to Heartland Community College on Saturday, September 3rd. This is Parkland's first loss of the 2022 season after starting the year 3-0. Despite the loss, freshmen
Faith Niebrugge continued her strong start to the season, scoring her 13th goal of the season in the 77th minute, four more goals than anyone else in NJCAA Division II women's soccer so far this fall.
"We knew this was going to be a tough match today," Parkland head coach
Dan Vogelsang recalled after the game. "It was an emotional week for the team and missing some key players due to injury didn't help. We learned a lot from today's game, and this helped us grow as a team. We will get back at it next week and be prepared for next Saturday."
The Cobras (3-1-0) found themselves trailing in the 18th minute but, thanks to three first-half saves from freshman goalkeeper
Shiann Haymaker, Parkland was able to keep the Hawks (2-1-1) lead to just one. Heartland extended their lead in the 63rd minute with a goal from just outside the box before a converted Hawks' penalty in the 75th gave them a 3-0 lead. The Cobras' pressure finally produced a goal in the 77th minute, when
Faith Niebrugge chipped the Hawks' keeper on an assist from freshmen midfielder
Lauren Schnepper, but it wasn't enough as Parkland falls 3-1 to Heartland in a top-20 matchup.
