SPARTANBURG, SC. – The No. 4 seed Parkland College Softball team dropped to the consolation bracket of the NJCAA DII National Tournament on Wednesday 24th, following a 4-2 loss to No. 5 seed Copiah-Lincoln Community College, but the Cobras bounced back with a 7-0 win over 14 seed Jackson College to stay alive. The Cobras (51-11) outhit the Wolves (45-9) by two in the loss, and the offense stayed hot against the Jets (40-19), as freshmen
Karley Yergler and
Lexie Griffin homered in the win. Yergler (27-8) started both games on Wednesday, striking out seven batters and earning one win and one loss.

Parkland advances to play No. 8 seed Kirkwood Community College tomorrow, May 25th, in the NJCAA DII Softball World Series Consolation Bracket. First pitch against the Eagles (45-17) is scheduled for 4:00 PM EST on Thursday.

The Cobras trailed 1-0 in the top of the 3rd inning, but an RBI triple from shortstop
Lizzie Stiverson (1-4, 3B, RBI) in the bottom half tied the game heading into the 4th. Second baseman
Emma Mason (1-3, HR) gave Parkland a 2-1 lead with a solo home run in the 4th, her 5th homer of the season.

The Wolves responded with a run in the top of the 5th, tying the game back up, and Copiah-Lincoln took a 4-2 lead in the 6th. The Cobras put runners on base in the 6th and 7th innings but couldn't bring them home, and Parkland lost 4-2.

Ryleigh Owens (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K) in the 6th inning, and the two allowed five total hits combined in the loss.

Karley Yergler (1-3, HR, 2 RBI) lifted a two-run home run in the 4th to give Parkland a six-run lead. Freshman catcher
Lexie Griffin (2-4, HR, 2 RBI, R) added a home run of her own in the 5th inning to put Parkland up 7-0.

In the circle, Yergler (7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K) did not allow a hit until the bottom of the sixth, striking out five in the complete game shutout, and the Cobras won 7-0.
Sophomore
Jaidi Davis (2-3, 2B) tied Griffin with a team-high two hits on Wednesday night, and freshmen
Ryleigh Owens (1-3, R) and
Lizzie Stiverson (1-3, R, BB) also scored in the win.
