SPARTANBURG, SC. – The No. 4 seed Parkland College Softball team wrapped up its season with a 5th place finish at the NJCAA DII National Tournament on Thursday, May 25th, as the Cobras were eliminated following their second loss of the tournament. The Cobras finished the 2023 season with a 52-12 record after defeating No. 8 seed Kirkwood Community College 10-2 in six innings early in the afternoon, but a 2-0 loss to No. 2 seed Louisburg College ended the season in heartbreaking fashion. Freshman pitcher
Karley Yergler (28-9) started both games, striking out 14 batters and allowing just two earned runs over 10 innings of work, and the Mahomet native also led the team with four hits on Thursday night.
"Tonight didn't end as we had planned, but this team fought until the very end," co-head coach
Dan Paulson said after the game. "Kristi, Stacey, and I are so thankful for the opportunity to coach each and every one of them."
"We want to give a special mention to our sophomore group," Paulson continued. "The leadership from those seven was just phenomenal from day one. Bri, Delaney, Emma, Jade, Jaden, Jaidi, and Zoey - this group has been special to the Cobra softball family. They were each instrumental in us finishing fifth in the nation and we are proud of them and thankful for their time as Cobras."
