Box Score 2 POPLARVILLE, Miss. – The No. 4 Parkland College Softball team returned to action at No. 6 Pearl River Community College on February 20, splitting the doubleheader with two extra-inning thrillers. The Cobras (7-3) surrendered a late two-run to the Wildcats (14-1) in game one before winning 5-4 in nine innings, but Pearl River returned the favor in the second game, winning 3-2 on a walk-off double in the bottom of the 10th. Lexie Griffin led the Cobras with 2 RBI versus the Wildcats, driving in the go-ahead run in the win.

The Cobras grabbed an early 2-0 lead, scoring on a wild pitch in the 2nd inning and a sac fly in the 3rd, but the Wildcats rallied to tie the game 2-2 in the bottom of the 5th. Sophomore
Lexie Griffin (3-5, 2B, 2 RBI) grounded an RBI single up the middle in the top of the 6th to put Parkland back in front, and
Ellie Vetter (1-3, 2B, RBI, R) drove in
Katy Hendricks in the 7th to double the lead, but Pearl River answered, scoring two in the bottom half to send the game to extra innings tied 4-4. Following a scoreless 8th inning, Griffin broke the tie again with an RBI single, knocking in Anna Frederick (2-4, 2B, RBI, 2 R), and the Cobras closed out the 5-4 win in the 9th.

Karley Yergler (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 7 BB, 13 K) struck out 13 batters in seven innings of work, earning the win on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore
Ryleigh Owens (2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER) closed out the win, relieving Yergler in the 8th.

Parkland opened the scoring on a
Tori Thomas (1-4, RBI, R) RBI single in the top of the 4th inning, and
Katy Hendricks (1-3, 2B, BB) doubled in the next at-bat to make it 2-0 Cobras midway through the game. Pearl River loaded the bases in the bottom half, but starting pitcher
Ellie Vetter (5.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 7 K) got out of the jam with a strikeout. The Wildcats tied the game in the 6th inning with their own back-to-back RBI hits, and a quiet 7th inning sent the game to extras. The Parkland offense struggled late, outhit 8-4 in game two, and Pearl River ended the game with an RBI double in the 10th.

Karley Yergler (4-2) finished the game in the circle, striking out three in 1 and 1/3 innings of work.
