Box Score 2 RAYMOND, Miss. – The No. 4 Parkland College Softball team picked up two road wins at Hinds Community College on Thursday, February 22. The Cobras (9-3) rallied to a 4-2 victory in extra innings in game one versus the Lady Eagles (4-6) before completing the sweep with a 6-0 shutout. Sophomore pitcher
Karley Yergler (5-2) added two wins on Thursday, allowing just two hits in seven innings of work while striking out six, and launched her first home run of the season in the game-two win.

The Cobras trailed early in the first game following a two-run home run by the Lady Eagles in the bottom of the 1st inning. Parkland tied the game up in the 5th with back-to-back RBI singles from
Mia Ruder (1-4, RBI) and
Alisha Frederick (2-4, RBI, R), and the visitors blanked the Hinds CC to force extra innings. In the 8th inning, Sophomore
Lexie Griffin (1-4, RBI) gave the Cobras the lead with an RBI single, and sophomore
Ellie Vetter (4-4, 2 2B, RBI) grounded an RBI double into right field to double the lead before
Karley Yergler struck out the side to lift Parkland over Hinds CC 4-2.

Ellie Vetter (5.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, BB, 8 K) allowed just two hits and one walk in five innings, striking out eight.
Karley Yergler (3.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 4 K) relieved Vetter in the 6th, earning the win following three shutdown innings.

Parkland took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the top of the 2nd inning, and the visitors added two runs in the 3rd to push the lead to 3-0. The Cobras broke the game open in the 4th inning with a solo home run from Yergler (1-1, HR, 2 RBI), an RBI triple from shortstop
Lizzie Stiverson (2-2, 2B, 3B, RBI, 2 R), and Stiverson scored on an error to make it 6-0 Parkland. The Lady Eagles threatened late, loading the bases with one out in the bottom of the 6th, but the Cobras closed out the 6-0 win to complete the series sweep.

Emma Mason (1-1, RBI) each drove in one run in the win.

Up next, the Cobras will play four games in the Hinds JUCO Classic this weekend, starting tomorrow, February 23. Parkland faces Mississippi Delta Community College (0-10) at noon before taking on Southwest Mississippi Community College (8-2) at 5:00 p.m. in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
