Box Score 2 VICKSBURG, Miss. – The No. 4 Parkland College Softball team opened the Hinds JUCO Classic with wins over Mississippi Delta Community College and Southwest Mississippi Community College on Friday, February 23. The Cobras (11-3) needed nine innings to win game one 3-2 over the Lady Eagles (0-11) before handling the Lady Bears (8-3) in a 5-1 win in game two. Sophomore
Lexie Griffin drove in the go-ahead run, and
Karley Yergler (7-2) picked up two wins in the circle on Friday, striking out 10 batters in eight innings of work.

Game 1: No. 4 Parkland College 3, Mississippi Delta Community College 2 (9 innings)

MDCC opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning and added another run in the 2nd to go up 2-0, but Parkland took advantage of a costly error in the top of the 6th, scoring two to tie the game and eventually force extra innings. In the top of the 9th, catcher
Lexie Griffin (1-3, RBI) popped a sacrifice fly to right field to score
Alisha Frederick (1-4, 2 R), and the Cobras closed out the 3-2 win.

In the circle, freshman
Claire Black (2.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 4 K) made her first career start, striking out four batters over two innings. Sophomore
Ellie Vetter (5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 6 BB, 9 K) relieved Black in the third, and Yergler (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 3 K) closed the game for the Cobras, earning the win.

The Cobras got on the board first, scoring two in the bottom of the 1st inning, but the Lady Bears got one back in the top of the 4th. Parkland responded quickly, as freshman
Tori Thomas (3-3, 3B, 2 R) tripled and Yergler (2-3, HR, 2B, 3 RBI) doubled in the bottom half to add to the lead, and Yergler lifted a two-run home run in the 6th inning, her second home run in as many days, to lift the Cobras over the Lady Bears 5-1.

Yergler (6.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 7 K) got the start in game two, earning her seventh win of the season, and sophomore
Ryleigh Owens (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER) pitched a scoreless 7th inning in the win. Sophomores
Mia Ruder (1-4, R) and
Emma Mason (2-3, R) scored in the win, and
Lexie Griffin (1-3, RBI) drove in a run in both games on Friday.
