Box Score 2 VICKSBURG, Miss. – The No. 4 Parkland College Softball team added two more wins at the Hinds JUCO Classic on Saturday, February 24, defeating No. 2 Copiah Lincoln Community College 6-4 in extra innings and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 5-0. The Cobras (13-3) needed a late rally to take down the Lady Wolves (2-1) in their first game, but a strong showing from the Parkland defense in game two helped the Cobras blank the Bulldogs (10-7) for their sixth consecutive win. Sophomore
Emma Mason led the team with 3 RBI on Saturday, as sophomore pitchers
Karley Yergler (8-2) and
Ellie Vetter (4-1) each earned a win.
"This was a gauntlet of a week coming down here and playing six teams from Region 23," co-head coach
Dan Paulson said on Saturday. "In all of Kristi and I's years coaching, we have never been a part of five extra-inning games over an eight-game stretch, and we came out on top in four out of the five. Our ladies really showed up and showed some grit all week."
"Each and every player on this team contributed to the success we had this week," Paulson continued. "We appreciate the opportunity to coach them, and we are excited to get back home and get to work on some things before we head to Orlando in March."
Up next, the Cobras will have some time off before competing in The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida, just outside of Orlando. Parkland College opens the 7-day tournament with games against Mott Community College and Mid-Michigan Community College on Saturday, March 9th.
