Box Score 2 CANTON, Ill. – The No. 1 Parkland College Softball team completed the regular season series sweep over No. 16 Spoon River College on Sunday, April 14th. The Cobras (43-3) (16-0) took down the Snappers (29-15) (10-6) in game one, 6-0, before closing the series with an 8-1 win in game two. Sophomore catcher
Lexie Griffin led the team with 6 RBI on six hits on Sunday, including her 12th home run of the year. Starting pitcher
Karley Yergler (22-2) tallied a season-high 16 strikeouts in the game-one win, and the Cobras kept their 36-game winning streak alive with the win in game two.

Up next, Parkland welcomes Lincoln Land Community College to Champaign on Friday, April 19th. First pitch against the Loggers (11-21) (6-6) is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Parkland College Softball Field.

Parkland opened the scoring in the top of the 1st inning with a 3-run shot from
Lexie Griffin, and
Ryleigh Owens (2-4, 2B, R) scored on an error in the 2nd to lead Spoon River 4-0. Griffin (4-4, HR, 4 RBI, R) lined an RBI single up the middle in the top of the 3rd for her 4th RBI of the day – and the Cobras held a 5-0 lead down the stretch.

Karley Yergler (7.0 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 16 K, 2 BB) threw a complete game shutout for the Cobras and launched a solo home run in the top of the 7th to round out the scoring in the 6-0 win.

Lexie Griffin opened the scoring again in the top of the 1st of game two with a 2-RBI double to center field, scoring
Mia Ruder and
Alisha Frederick – and
Tori Thomas drove in Griffin to give Parkland an early 3-0 lead. The Cobras kept the scoring going with back-to-back RBI from Frederick and
Lizzie Stiverson in the 2nd inning – and Ruder grounded a 2-RBI single up the middle to knock in two more runs in the 3rd to push the lead to 7-0.

The Snappers ended the Cobra defense's 21-inning scoreless streak in the bottom of the 5th with a solo home run – but Stiverson provided a quick answer with an RBI double in the 6th, and Parkland closed out an 8-1 win on the road.

Ellie Vetter (15-1) allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks over five innings of work on Sunday, striking out five before
Ryleigh Owens (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, K) finished the job and secured the win.
