Box Score 2 CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 1 Parkland College Softball team picked up two wins over Illinois Central College on Monday, April 22nd. The Cobras (48-4) rallied to defeat the Cougars (16-16) in walk-off fashion, 4-2, in game one, and the offense roared to life in a 9-1 game-two win in six innings. Sophomore
Karley Yergler (25-2) got the win in the circle and hit the game-winning walk-off 2-run home run in game one, while
Ellie Vetter (17-2) earned the win in game two and tied first baseman
Alisha Frederick with a team-high 3 RBI on Monday.

Up next, the Cobras host a conference doubleheader against John Wood Community College on Saturday, April 27th. First pitch versus the Blazers (0-27) (0-18) is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Parkland College Softball Field.

The Cougars took an early lead with two runs in the top of the 3rd inning, but the Cobras got one back in the bottom half when freshman
Alisha Frederick (1-3, 2B, R, BB) scored from second base on a throwing error. Parkland tied the game 2-2 on a
Mia Ruder (2-4, RBI) RBI single in the bottom of the 4th, scoring
Ellie Vetter (R, 2 BB).

With the game still tied in the bottom of the 7th, sophomore
Karley Yergler (1-4, HR, 2 RBI) lifted her 17th homer of the season out to center field, scoring
Lizzie Stiverson (1-2, R, 2 BB) and giving the Cobras a 4-2 win.

In the circle, Yergler (7.0 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 10 K, BB) struck out 10 batters on 109 pitches in a complete game, allowing five hits and one walk in her 30th appearance of the season.

Parkland got on the board first in game two, driving in two runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning, but ICC countered in the 4th with a run to cut the lead in half. Sophomore
Ellie Vetter blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the 4th to extend the lead to 3-1, and the Cobras capped a 5-run 5th inning with a 2-run homer from Vetter (2-3, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R), her 4th of the year.

Parkland blanked ICC in the top of the 6th and drove in one more run in the bottom half to go up 9-1 and run-rule the Cougars.

In the circle, Vetter (6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 6 K, 2 BB) allowed just three hits and two walks, striking out six batters in her 21st start.
