Box Score 2 CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 1 Parkland College Softball team added two conference wins over John Wood Community College on Thursday, April 25th. The Cobras (50-4) (21-1) raced past the Blazers (0-29) (0-20) in a quick 15-1 win in five innings in game one before smashing five home runs in a 20-1 game-two win in five innings. Sophomore catcher
Lexie Griffin recorded a career-high 9 RBI in game two to help the Cobras improve to 12-0 at home on the season.

Up next, the Cobras host Sophomore Day versus conference-rival Heartland Community College on Sunday, April 28th, in their final home doubleheader of the regular season. First pitch against the Hawks (25-25) (11-9) is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, with the Sophomore Day ceremony taking place in between the two games.

The Parkland offense roared out of the gate in the bottom of the 1st inning with an RBI double from
Alisha Frederick and back-to-back home runs by
Karley Yergler (2-3, HR, 2 RBI, R) and
Reece Sarver (2-3, HR, 2B, 2 RBI, 3 R), her first of the year, and freshman
Claire Black (2-3, 2B) lined an RBI single to centerfield before John Wood recorded its first out of the game.

The Cobras led 6-0 after the 1st and added four runs in the 2nd, capped by an RBI double from
Kallie Evans. In the 3rd inning, Frederick (3-3, 2 2B, RBI, 3 R) scored on a wild pitch, and
Katy Hendricks (3-3, 2 RBI, 2 R) lined an RBI single to right field before Parkland loaded the bases a knocked in three more runs to take a 15-0 lead. The Blazers walked in a run to break the shutout in the 4th, but the Cobras kept their cool and closed out a 15-1 win in game one.

Karley Yergler (26-2) struck out all nine batters she faced in three innings, and freshman
Claire Black (2.0 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 1 K, 4 BB) did not allow a hit in relief for a combined no-hitter.

The Cobras drove in four runs in the top of the 1st inning to take control early. In the 2nd, sophomore
Lexie Griffin (3-3, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 3 R) launched a grand slam to center field,
Ellie Vetter (2-3, HR, RBI, 2 R, BB) lined a solo home run in the next at bat,
Tori Thomas (1-4, HR) lifted a 2-run homer, and Griffin crushed a 3-run bomb, her second of the inning, to cap a 12-run inning and put Parkland up 16-0.

John Wood scored on an error in the top of the 3rd, but Parkland freshman
Kailyn Wilson (1-2, HR) provided a quick answer with a 3-run home run of her own, her second of the season, in the bottom half, and
Ryleigh Owens (1-3, RBI, BB) popped an RBI single to left field to extend the lead to 20-1.

Ryleigh Owens (5-0) allowed four hits and no walks, striking out seven in her fifth start of the season, and
Ellie Vetter (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 6 K, BB) pitched two scoreless innings to close out the game and give the Cobras the 20-1 win in game two.
