Box Score 2 EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The No. 1 Parkland College Softball team picked up two road wins in a Region 24 doubleheader on Saturday, April 6th, versus Illinois Central College. The Cobras (35-3) capitalized on a strong start to win 8-0 and 13-1 at the Cougars (7-9), extending their winning streak to 28 straight games. Sophomore starting pitchers
Karley Yergler (19-2) and
Ellie Vetter (12-1) earned wins – and Northern Illinois University transfer
Mia Ruder led the team with six hits on Saturday.

Up next, the Cobras travel to Quincy, Illinois, for a conference doubleheader at John Wood Community College tomorrow, April 7th. First pitch against the Blazers (0-9) (0-4) is set for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Mia Ruder opened with a triple, and freshman
Alisha Frederick drove her in before scoring on a
Lizzie Stiverson RBI groundout to give the Cobras a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. Frederick (2-3, 3 RBI, R) grounded a bases-loaded 2-RBI single in the top of the 2nd, and Ruder (3-3, 3B, 3 R) stole home to put Parkland up 5-0. Stiverson (RBI, R) scored on a fielder's choice in the 3rd,
Karley Yergler (1-3, 2 RBI) hit a 2-RBI single up the middle in the 4th to push the lead to 8-0, and the Cobras closed out the Cougars for the five-inning shutout win.

The Cobras struck first on four straight hits to open the second game, taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning on a 2-RBI single from
Lizzie Stiverson (1-2, 2 RBI, R, BB). Parkland strung together hits in the top of the 3rd, taking a 5-0 lead following a 2-RBI single by
Emma Mason (2-2, 2 RBI, 2 R) and
Ellie Vetter (blasted a 2-RBI double later in the inning to go up 8-0.

Alisha Frederick (3-3, HR, 2B, 3 RBI, 3 R) crushed a two-run home run, and catcher
Lexie Griffin (1-2, HR, 3 RBI) added a two-run homer of her own to give the Cobras a 12-0 lead in the top of the 4th. Freshman
Kailyn Wilson blasted her first career home run in the top of the 13th before Illinois Central scored on an error in the bottom half to break up the shutout - but Parkland polished off the sweep with a 13-1 win in five innings.
