Box Score 2 QUINCY, Ill. – The No. 1 Parkland College Softball team picked up big wins against John Wood Community College in a conference doubleheader at Quincy High School on Sunday, April 7th. The Cobras (37-3) (10-0) got on the board early and often versus the Blazers (0-13) (0-8) in a 19-1 win and 21-0 win on the road, both in five innings. Parkland outhit John Wood CC 41-6, and freshman infielder
Kailee Otto led the Cobras with four RBI on Sunday.

Up next, the Cobras play their rescheduled doubleheader at Heartland Community College tomorrow, Monday, April 8th. First pitch against the conference-rival Hawks (16-15) (3-2) is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Corn Crib in Normal, Illinois.

The Cobras capitalized on an early Blazer error when
Emma Mason lifted a 2-run home run to kickstart an 11-run 1st inning, which included RBI doubles from
Maddie Reed (1-3, 2 RBI, R),
Alisha Frederick (3-5, RBI, 4 R, 2 SB), and
Kailee Otto. Back-to-back RBI singles in the top of the 3rd from
Kailyn Wilson (1-2, RBI, R, BB, SB) and
Tori Thomas (1-2, RBI, R, BB) put Parkland up 13-0, and a bases-clearing RBI-double from
Kailee Otto (2-3, 2 2B, 4 RBI, R, 2 SB) extended the lead to 17 in the top of the 4th.

The Blazers ended their scoring drought with a run in the bottom of the 4th – the Cobras added a run on an
Addie Wallace (1-2, 2B, 2 RBI, R) RBI double – and freshman
Kailyn Wilson (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 K) struck out the final two batters in relief of a 19-1 Parkland win in five innings. Starting pitcher
Ryleigh Owens (4-0) threw three hitless innings, striking out four in her fourth start of the season.

Ellie Vetter opened the scoring with an RBI single in the top of the 1st inning before
Tori Thomas smacked a 3-run home run – and the Cobras drove in 11 runs in the opening inning for a second straight game. In the 2nd inning, sophomore
Katie Clark grounded an RBI single up the middle – Vetter (2-2, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB) knocked in Clark to extend the lead – and Parkland got out of a no-out bases-loaded jam in the bottom half to maintain the shutout.

Payton Roberts (2-4, 2B, RBI, 2 R, 2 SB) lifted an RBI double to right field, and a sacrifice fly from Clark (2-3, 3 RBI, 2 R, 2 SB) pushed the lead to 15-0 in the 3rd. Sophomore
Karley Yergler and
Claire Black (4-5, HR, 2B, 3 RBI, 3 R) launched home runs in the top of the 4th as the Cobras added five runs to their lead - and freshman
Reece Sarver (2-4, RBI, 2 R, BB) lined an RBI single in the 5th as Parkland powered past John Wood 21-0.
