Champaign, Il -- September 9, 2025 -- The Parkland women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season in their home opener on Wednesday win a 2-0 win over Wabash Valley.

After a scoreless first half, the Cobras would take the lead in the 55th minute on a goal from Alyssa Wells, later adding to the lead on a goal from Ava Jansen in the 89th minute to give the Cobras the win. Melanie Lopez would finish with two assists after setting up both Parkland Goals that afternoon. The Cobras finished with 20 shots with 8 on frame and finishing with 10 team saves at the net in a game where Parkland dominated possession all afternoon.

Head coach Chase Bourgasser highlighted the team's overall effort and balanced attack:

"What we saw tonight was the result of hard work put in by a whole unit. They've taken what we've worked on and implemented extremely well. Credit to the girls whose names will show up in box, Alyssa and Ava, they both put up two solid shots and kept the GK on her toes all night. This is what Sophia and I see in training daily so after a disappointing opening weekend it is nice to see it start to shine. I also want to give a lot of credit to our defense and GK. They worked well as a unit and kept the game in front of them. They have done a fantastic job of communicating and organizing the team and the 0 is really a reflection of their leadership. I was very happy with the effort the girls in the middle showed tonight. Both Selah and Marely played all 90-minutes and kept us connected all game. I would say that is what I'm most happy with, the passing and connection we showed tonight."

The Cobras improve to 1-2 on the season with the win, while the Lady Warriors fall to 0-3.
