Baseball wins two at Lincoln Land to sweep four game series

Cobras sweep series from Loggers
Trystin Raikes two run blast in the top of the 7th of game one gave Parkland a 6-5 win in the opener and the Cobras slithered out of a 7th inning bases loaded jam in game two to held on for a win 5-2 win.  The two victories give PC a sweep of the four game series with the Loggers.  Parkland improves to (13-6 4-0) on the season while Lincoln Land drops to (7-11 0-4).

Game 1:

The Cobras trailed 5-3 headed to the 7th inning before staging the rally.  After Tyler Paulsen struck out to start the inning, Brendan Joyce followed with a single. Connor Aube then reached on a two-base error by the Lincoln Land third basemen giving the Cobras runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out. Trevor Minder followed with a single scoring Joyce, but Aube was thrown out at the plate trying to score the tying run.  With a man on and two out, Raikes crushed a shot down the left field line that just stayed fair to give PC a 6-5 lead. It was Raikes team leading 4th home run of the season.

Christian Sidoti retired the side in order in the bottom of the 7th to earn the victory. Sidoti tossed three innings in relief and did not allow a run while walking one and striking out three. Minder had three hits in the contest while Nick Wisz added a pair.

Game 2:

Parkland jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the finale as Tyler Paulsen drove in a pair in the 2nd inning to give PC the early lead. The Cobras added two more in the 3rd and scored their final run on a Bobby Barnard sacrifice fly in the 5th.  Josh Garner (2-2) threw the first five innings and was in complete control as he did not allow a run on just two hits.

Casey Kempner gave up an unearned run in the 6th and Tom Cheshareck would come in to pitch the 7th. Cheshareck gave up two hits and two walks before Alex Skibba was summoned with the bases loaded and two outs. Skibba walked the first hitter to force in a run and with the winning run at the plate, got Cole Greer to ground out to 3rd to end the contest. Skibba earned his 1st save and became the 5th different Cobra hurler to earn a save this season.

Marty Dosen went 3-3, Max Downs 2-2, and Paulen drove in three runs as PC earned the sweep of the rival Loggers.  Parkland will be off until next Friday when they start a four game series against Spoon River.
