The #9 ranked Parkland Baseball team got back to their winning ways on Tuesday as they swept a doubleheader from the Millikin University JV. The Cobras won the opener 11-0 before rallying to take the second game by the score of 4-2. After playing 7 games in 5 days, PC will be off until the weekend when they will play Lincoln in a four game series. The Cobras (29-11 15-5) will travel to Lincoln for a 1:00 DH on Saturday before hosting the Lynx is a pair of games starting at 1:00 on Sunday.
Game 1:
Colton Thompson and
Sean Ferguson combined to shutout the Big Blue allowing just three hits. Thompson (3-1), appearing for the first time since March 30 due to an injury, worked three solid innings allowing three hits while walking one and striking out three. Ferguson worked the final two inning and did not allow a hit while also striking out three. PC jumped out on top in the first as
Trevor Minder cracked a solo home run, his 2nd homer of the season.
Connor Aube would later single and score on a
Max Downs sacrifice fly. Minder and Downs would also be a part of the next Cobra run as he doubled in the 3rd and scored on another sacrifice by Downs. PC blew the game open in the 4th scoring six times.Â
Bobby Barnard started the inning with a walk and
Nick Wisz was hit by a pitch. Christian Sanchez reached on an error and two runs would score on a
Brendan Joyce single. Aube followed with a run scoring double and
Trystin Raikes wrapped up the scoring with his 9th home run of the year, a two-run shot. Aube would end the game by the run rule with a two-run double in the 5th as he went 3-4 with 3 RBI in the win. Minder and Raikes both had two hits and a home run.

Game 2:
For the second straight day PC found themselves behind after winning the opener in a rout, but this time PC would rally for the win thanks to solid pitching and the bat of
Tyler Paulsen.Â
Sam Ballard worked the first three innings but was touched for a pair of runs in the 3rd as Millikin led by two headed to the bottom of the 4th. Paulsen would get the Cobras on the board as he crushed his 10th home run of the year, well over the left field wall. Later in the inning,
Brendan Joyce would double off the fence and come home on a big two-out single by
Nick Wisz.Â
Andrew Jurack came on in relief and retired the Big Blue in order in the 4th and 5th innings before running into trouble with one out in the 6th. He was relieved by
Tom Cheshareck who entered with runners on second and third with one out and got out of the jam unscored upon. PC would carry the momentum into the bottom of the frame as Paulsen again delivered as he hit home run #2 on the day leading off the inning. The rounder tripper, his team high 11th, landed in nearly the same spot as his first blast. Joyce followed with a bunt single, advanced to third on an error, and came home on Barnard's sacrifice fly to center. Cheshareck was back on the hill to close things out in the 7th and after retiring the first hitter, gave up a single and hit a batter. But with the potential winning run at the plate, he would strike out the final two hitters to earn his first victory of the season.
