Parkland used a four run 3rd inning and a seven run 8th, to pull away for a 13-5 win over visiting Vincennes University in an NJCAA non-conference baseball game. The win moves PC to (38-12-1) and they will take on Kankakee at 3:30 on Wednesday afternoon in Champaign. Â
The Cobras jumped on top in the first at
Trevor Minder reached on an error and later came home on a
Trystin Raikes single. After the Blazers tied the game in the top of the 3rd, PC answered back in a big way as
Alex Steinbach cracked a grand slam home run to give the Cobras a 5-1 lead.
VU would chip away scoring single runs in the 4th and 5th innings before tying the contest at 5-5 in the top of the 7th. The Cobras would regain the lead in the bottom of the inning as
Nick Wisz singled and was replaced by
Marty Dosen as a pinch runner. Dosen advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to 3rd on an error, and came home on Christian Sanchez's sacrifice fly. The Blazers would threaten in the top of the 8th as they loaded the bases with one out, but reliever
Ty McCulloch got a 6-4-3 double play ball to end the threat. PC blew the game wide open in the bottom of the 8th, as they scored seven more runs. After a Minder single, Aube drove him home with a double.
Tyler Paulsen added an RBI single, Steinbach plated a run with an infield out,
Logan Pillars drove home a run with a single, and
Evan Huffman delivered a pinch-hit two-run triple.
Four Cobra hurlers worked in the game with starter
Jack Lambert working the first four innings allowing two earned runs.
Colton Thompson picked up the win as he pitched three innings and gave up three runs. McCulloch and
Tom Cheshareck each worked a scoreless inning to wrap up the win. Raikes led the Cobras 15 hit attack going 3-4 while Steinbach drove in five runs in the win.
