Box Score HILLSBORO, Mo. – Sophomore first baseman Dan Warkentin hit his first home run of the season, but No. 5 Parkland baseball surrendered an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth, and lost at Jefferson College, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon. Starting pitcher Keegan McHood pitched four innings and took a no decision, while
Jake Rosing (0-1) was pinned with the loss despite not giving up a run over three innings. With the loss, the Cobras drop to 8-5 on the season.
Parkland's offense scored early with a run in the top of the first, and then tied the game, 2-2, in the top of the fourth. But, the offense was unable to respond following the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
In addition to Warkentin's solo home run, leadoff hitter
Trevor Burkhart led the Cobras lineup with a three-hit day. Shortstop
Trevor Minder was the other standout, joining Burkhart in a multi-hit game. Minder doubled for one of his two hits and stole his 10
th and 11
th bag of the season.
After allowing a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, starter Keegan McHood settled down to toss three scoreless frames and five total strikeouts. Rosing relieved McHood to begin the fifth inning, allowing just one hit and striking out three.
Logan Pillars relieved Rosing to pitch a scoreless eighth inning.
Up next, Parkland baseball returns home on Thursday to host Quincy JV at 2 p.m. central time. The Cobras finish up the week with a series against Illinois Central on Saturday and Sunday. The series begins in East Peoria, Ill., before concluding at the Parkland Baseball Field on Sunday, March 24, at 1 p.m.
