Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – No. 9 Parkland baseball split a Saturday doubleheader at Lincoln Land, winning game one 9-0 behind a complete game from
Ty Rybarczyk but dropped game two, 2-1. The Cobras move to 32-14 overall and 23-7 in the M-WAC.
In game one,
Ty Rybarczyk continued his dominant season with a three-hit complete game shutout. Now 8-0 on the season, the Cobra right hander walked one and struck out seven batters in route to lowering his M-WAC-leading ERA to 0.96 which ranks second in NJCAA Division I. Backing the dominant performance on the mound,
Jeremiah Lebron hit a grand slam in the fifth and
Alex Steinbach launched a two-run shot in the seventh, keeping the two sluggers tied for the team lead with seven homers each.
In game two, both sides were held to just two hits but Lincoln Land was able to make a two-run third inning stand up.
Ricky Castro pitched six innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four. Left fielder
Tynan Shahidi drove in the long Cobra run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Up next, Parkland hosts games three and four of the series at 1 p.m. central time. The Cobras will conclude its regular season on Wednesday, May 8, with a 3 p.m. game at Kankakee.
Game 1: No. 9 Parkland 9, Lincoln Land 0
Cobra starting pitcher Rybarczyk allowed the first two Loggers to reach in the first inning, and then promptly sat down the next 12 batters he faced with three straight three-up, three-down innings to keep the game tied.
After stranding runners in scoring position in the second and third innings, the Cobras broke through to take the lead in the top of the fifth inning. After a strikeout to start the inning,
Robert Archbold and Bobby Barnard reached on walks and then advanced a base on a Minder single. With the bases full and one out, Lebron cleared the bases with a grand slam for his seventh homer of the season.
The Cobras padded their lead in the sixth with back-to-back hits by
Alex Steinbach and
Tynan Shahidi to begin the inning and two-out double by
Trevor Burkhart. Steinbach put himself in scoring position with a double, and then came around to score on a single by Shahidi. With two on and two out, Burkhart lined a double to plate two more for a 7-0 lead.
Parkland's lead ballooned to 9-0 in the seventh when
Alex Steinbach tied Lebron for the team lead in home runs, hitting a two-run shot that scored Minder.
Rybarczyk remained in control for the remainder of the game, allowing just base runners over the final three innings. Walking just one, the Cobra right hander stuck out seven Loggers to earn his eighth win of the season.
Game 2: No. 9 Parkland 1, Lincoln Land 2
After being shutout for the first nine innings of the doubleheader, Lincoln Land drew first blood in game two with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.
Being held without a hit through three innings, the Cobras got on the board in the fourth frame.
Trevor Minder broke up the no-hitter with a one-out single and then moved to third on back-to-back walks to
Alex Steinbach and
Damian Pierce. With the bases loaded and still only one out,
Tynan Shahidi lofted a ball to left, allowing Minder to tag up and score.
Jeremiah Lebron led off the sixth with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch, but the Cobras were unable to score the tying run.
