Cobras Baseball Picks Up Two Wins at Home

The Cobras go 2-0 in their first home series of the season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Parkland College Baseball team hosted Mott Community College in the Cobras' first home series of the 2022 season on Sunday afternoon. Parkland defeated Mott in the first game, 3-2, and the Cobras won the second 8-5. The Cobras (6-3-1) are undefeated in their last seven games.

"Being able to play out first home games of the year is a great feeling," said head coach Anthony Silkwood after the wins. "Thankfully Rantoul's sports facilities were available for us due to the late snow over the weekend. Our team came ready to play another tough opponent who decided, last minute, to come down to play us. Our energy is positive, and I like the direction we are moving."

"Lastly," Silkwood continued, "I can't thank my assistants enough, as they are putting in countless hours in preparations for these games."

Up next, the Cobras welcome Marian University to Champaign tomorrow, Monday, March 14th for a doubleheader.

Game 1: Parkland 3, Mott Community College 2

The Cobras found themselves in an old-school small-ball matchup in the first game on Sunday, as neither team recorded more than one extra-base hit. Parkland got on the board first, scoring one run in the bottom of the second. Mott CC tied the game up in the fifth, but Parkland retook the lead with another run in the bottom of the inning. The Cobras scored again in the sixth and, despite surrendering a run in the top of the seventh, came away with the 3-2 win.

Nick Gregory (1-1, RBI, 2 BB), Cole Jones (2-3, RBI) and Keenan Taylor (2-3) sparked the offense for the Cobras, while Mitch Mueller (6.0 IP, 3 ER, 11K) picked up the win on the mound.

Game 2: Parkland 8, Mott Community College 5

The Cobras' bats got hot in the second game, as four different Parkland players launched home runs during an 8-5 Parkland win. The Cobras scored three runs in the first and two more in the second before the Bears responded by driving in three runs in the third. Mott CC tied the game at 5 in the top of the sixth inning, but Parkland responded with three more runs in the bottom of the inning and Jack Young (2.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 K) blanked Mott in the top of the seventh to close it out.

Tucker Shalley (5.0 IP, 4 ER, 8 K) made the start for the Cobras in his third appearance of the 2022 season. Jaden Lamothe (1-4, 4 RBI, HR), Cole Evans (1-3, 2 RBI, HR, BB), Keenan Taylor (1-4, RBI, HR) and Jaden Gibson (1-3, RBI, HR) homered in the win.
