Box Score 2 DANVILLE, Ill. – The Parkland College Baseball travelled to Danville Area Community College for a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, winning both by scores of 8-4 and 11-1, respectively. The Cobras bounced back from losing two games to the Jaguars at home the previous day. Sophomore
Jackson Blemler led the team in hits, runs and stolen bases on Sunday while freshman
Michael Sharman picked up a win on the mound.
Up next, the Cobras have one day of rest before South Suburban College comes to Champaign for a game on Tuesday, April 12th. First pitch will be at 3:00 PM.
Game 1: Parkland College 8, Danville Area Community College 4 (8 innings)
The Cobras (18-13-1) (8-8) first got on the board in the 3rd, scoring two on the Jaguars (11-16) (7-9) before DACC scored in the bottom of the inning. Parkland drove in another run in the top of the 4th and the Cobras led 3-1 until the Jaguars hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the 5th to take a 4-3 lead. Parkland drove in a much-needed run in the top of the 7th to send the game to extra innings, and the Cobras exploded for four runs in the top of the 8th to take the first game, 8-4 over the Jaguars.
Sophomore
Jay Schueler (0-0) made his fourth start of the season on Sunday. Schueler allowed four runs and struck out four batters over 4.67 innings of work.
Nathan Righi (1.33 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 K) relieved Schueler in the 5th, allowing just one hit.
Tucker Shalley (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 K) got the save for Cobras in his seventh appearance of the season.
Jackson Blemler (2-3, RBI, 2 R, 2B, BB) and
Keenan Taylor (2-4, RBI, 2 R, SB) both scored twice and
Nick Gregory (3-4, RBI, R, 2B) led the team in hits.
Game 2: Parkland College 11, Danville Area Community College 1
The Cobras started off hot in the second game against the Jaguars, scoring four runs in the 1st and five in the 2nd to take a 9-1 lead. DACC couldn't quiet the Cobras as Parkland scored again in the 3rd and again in the 4th. The Cobras coasted to a Sunday sweep with an 11-1 victory over the Jaguars in the second game of the conference doubleheader.
On the mound,
Michael Sharman (4-1) was dialed in, allowing just one run and two hits over four innings of work, striking out eight.
Alex Pipes made his fourth appearance of the season, relieving Sharman in the 5th and striking out one. Offensively,
Tyler Herron (1-3, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, SB) went deep and
Cole Evans (2-4, 3 RBI, 2 R, 2B) led the team in RBIs, but
Jackson Blemler (2-3, 3 R, RBI, 4 SB) stole the show on the basepath with four stolen bases and three runs in the win.
