Box Score 2 QUINCY, Ill. – The Parkland College Baseball team took care of business in an important conference doubleheader against John Wood Community College on Saturday as the Cobras defeated the Blazers 11-1 and 12-10 in Quincy. The Cobras end their four-game losing streak with their first true road wins since March 5th versus Southwestern Illinois College. Sophomore
Cole Evans led Parkland in hits with five on Saturday as he and sophomore
Nick Gregory both drove in five runs each over the course of the two games.
Jay Schueler and
Mitch Mueller made the starts on the mound for the Cobras.Â

Up next, the Cobras return home tomorrow, April 3rd for another conference doubleheader against John Wood. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM at the Rantoul Sports Complex. Â

Game 1: Parkland College 11, John Wood Community College 1 (Five innings)Â Â

The Cobras (12-11-1) jumped out to a quick four-run lead in the first inning, and Parkland led 6-0 in the top of the 2nd. The Blazers (9-15-1) got a run back in the bottom of the frame, but the Cobras weren't done, driving in four more in the third to take the 10-1 lead.
Mitch Mueller (3-2) shut down John Wood's offense the rest of the way and Parkland drove in one more in the top of the 5th on the way to an 11-1 conference win. Â

Mueller (5.0 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 9 K) pitched a complete game on Saturday, striking out nine batters over five innings in his sixth appearance of the season. Offensively,
Nick Gregory (1-3, 3 RBI, HR, BB, SB) and
Jackson Moffat (2-3, RBI, HR, 2 R) both went deep as Gregory and
Cole Evans (1-2, 3 RBI, R, SB) led the Cobras with 3 RBI each. Parkland drove in 10 runs on five hits in large part due to four different players recording a stolen base.Â

Game 2: Parkland College 12, John Wood Community College 11Â

The Cobras led after the 1st inning, but the Blazers answered with a run in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game 1-1. Parkland's offense exploded for seven runs in the top of the 4th, however, John Wood wouldn't go away, as the Blazers cut the Cobras' lead to 8-6 after the 5th. Each team scored in the 6th inning and John Wood tied the game, 9-9, in the 7th. The Cobras' bats got hot one last time when it mattered most, as the Parkland batters scored three runs in the top of the 9th. The Blazers got one run back in the bottom of the frame, but it wasn't enough to stop the Cobras from picking up their second win of the day by a score of 12-11.Â

Cole Evans (4-5, 2 RBI, 2 R, SB) gave Blazers' pitchers fits at the plate while
Nick Gregory (1-5, 2 RBI, 3 R, BB) successfully stole two bases Saturday evening. Sophomore
Keenan Taylor (2-6, 4 RBI, HR) hit a grand slam and
Logan Reidelberger hit a key pinch-hit double for the Cobras.
Jay Schueler (0-0) made the start for Parkland, striking out five batters over five innings.
Carter Monke and
Jack Young came in for relief in the win.Â
