Parkland Baseball Opens Postseason Play with 10-4 Win

The Cobras outhit the Trailblazers 13-8 to advance

Box Score NORMAL, Ill. – The No. 2 seed Parkland College Baseball team advanced to the second round of the Region 24 Tournament with a 10-4 victory over No. 7 seed Vincennes University on Wednesday, May 17th, at the Corn Crib. The Cobras (45-12) trailed the Trailblazers (25-32) early in the game before a four-run 7th inning powered Parkland into the second round of the Central A District Championship. Center fielder Ty Hollandsworth (3-4, 2 RBI) led the team with three hits, and first baseman Logan Reidelberger (2-5, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R) hit his third home run of the season in the 8th inning.
 
"At the end of the day, it's all about finding a way to survive and advance," Parkland head coach Anthony Silkwood said after the win. "I think we have a really energetic and good group of guys. With that being said, I think the biggest thing is that they play together, they're great teammates, and we are going to feed off that all tournament."
 
Up next, Parkland continue postseason play tomorrow, Thursday, May 18th, against No. 6 seed Illinois Central College at the Corn Crib in Normal, Illinois. First pitch against the Cougars (22-32) is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Thursday.
 
No. 2 Parkland College 10, No. 7 Vincennes University 4
 
Vincennes grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, but Parkland quickly answered in the 2nd when freshman Ryan Snell (2-4, 2 R, BB, SB) scored on a wild pitch. The Trailblazers regained a one-run lead in the 3rd, scoring on an error. The Cobras responded in the bottom of the 4th, taking a 3-2 lead on a bases-loaded 2-RBI single from Ty Hollandsworth (3-4, 2 RBI), and Josh Outlaw (1-4, RBI, SB) drove in one more on a fielder's choice to put Parkland up 4-2.
 
The Trailblazers knotted the score with two runs in the 5th, but the Cobras rallied in the bottom of the 7th, scoring four to take an 8-4 lead. Sophomore Logan Reidelberger got the rally started with an RBI single, scoring Austin Gomm (2-4, 2B, 2 R, BB), freshman Chase Becker (2-4, 2B, RBI, 2 R, BB) kept it going with an RBI double to left field, and sophomore Nate Bingman (1-3, 2B, 2 RBI, R, BB) grounded a 2-RBI double up the middle to score Snell and Becker. Reidelberger (2-5, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R) added to the lead with a two-run homer in the 8th inning, and Parkland won 10-4.
 
Sophomore Tresdon Rybarczyk (5.0 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) started the game on the mound, facing 24 batters through five innings before Brenden Katz (3-1) replaced him. Katz (2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K) earned the win in relief, his third of the season, and sophomore Alex Pipes (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) finished the game on the mound for the Cobras.
