Parkland Baseball Defeats Southeastern Illinois College 23-6

The Cobras bounce back with a big win over the Division I Falcons

Box Score HARRISBURG, Ill. – The Parkland College Baseball team got on the board early and often on Tuesday, March 19th, in a 23-6 road win over Southeastern Illinois College. The Cobras (11-8) drove in five runs in the top of the 1st against the Falcons (10-15), adding to their lead every following inning to cruise to victory. Outfielder Dawson Magrini (2-3, HR, 2B, 4 RBI, 2 R) blasted his first home run of the year, leading the team with four RBI, and third baseman Luke Parmentier (3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 3 R) led the team in hits, while sophomore Alex Vertuno (1-0) picked up the win in his first start of the season, allowing three hits and one earned run over four innings, striking out five.
 
Up next, Parkland will host No. 16 Lincoln Land Community College in a conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 23rd. First pitch versus the Loggers (17-14) (8-0) is scheduled for noon at the Parkland College Baseball field.

The Cobras took the lead on a two-out RBI single from Luke Parmentier in the top of the 1st inning before Charlie Marisca (1-3, HR, 3 RBI) flew a 3-run home run over the right field fence – and Scott Newman scored on an error to put them up 5-0 early on the Falcons. In the top of the 2nd, freshman Adison Worthman drove in Will Applegate (1-2, 3 R, BB), Will Flanigan (1-2, 2B, 2 R, BB) scored on an error, and Worthman (1-3, RBI, 3 R, 2 SB) successfully stole home to give the visitors an 8-0 lead, and Parkland added three more runs in the 3rd to go up 11-0.
 
Parkland led 16-0 in the bottom of the 4th inning before Southeastern Illinois broke up the shutout with a solo home run, but the Parkland offense stayed in the groove, and the Cobras took a 21-2 lead on an RBI triple from Scott Newman (1-2, 3B, RBI, 3 R, BB, 2 SB) in the top of the 6th. The Falcons got one back in the 6th inning and battled for three runs in the bottom of the 7th, but the Cobra lead was too big, and Parkland won 23-6.
