Parkland Baseball Goes 1-1 at No. 16 Lincoln Land Community College

The Cobras split the regular season series with the Loggers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Parkland College Baseball team split a second conference doubleheader in two days against No. 16 Lincoln Land Community College on Sunday, March 24th. The Cobras (13-10) (3-5) lost the first game 4-0 to the Loggers (19-6) (10-2), but the visitors ended the day with a 13-9 win. Freshman first baseman Michael Carrano Jr. led the Cobras with 3 RBI, and outfielders Josh Outlaw (3-4, 3B, 2 RBI, 3 R, BB) and Scott Newman (1-3, 2 RBI, 3 R, 2 BB) scored a team-high three runs in the road doubleheader – while sophomore pitcher Hunter Pudlo (2-0) was credited with the win in game two.
 
Up next, the Cobras play a doubleheader at Spoon River College on Friday, March 29th, with a home doubleheader against the Snappers (14-11) (3-7) to follow on Saturday, March 30th. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for noon in Canton, Illinois.

Parkland fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the 1st inning, and Lincoln Land added runs in the 3rd and 4th to take a 4-0 lead. The Cobras finally got a hit in the top of the 6th when Tylor Phommachanhom (1-3) lined a single back up the middle, but the Loggers kept their bats quiet, and Parkland went down 4-0 in game one.
 
Sophomore starting pitcher Jaxon Christensen (0-4) struck out five batters over four innings of work, allowing five hits and four earned runs before Alex Vertuno (2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 K, BB) entered the game in the 5th.

The Cobras trailed 3-0 in the bottom of the 1st again in game two, but the visitors knocked in two in the top of the 3rd, and a 2-RBI single from Scott Newman (1-3, 2 RBI, 3 R, 2 BB, SB) put Parkland up 4-3 in the 4th. The Loggers answered, retaking the lead in the bottom half, but the Cobras knotted the game up at 5-5 in the top of the 6th on a Tylor Phommachanhom (1-5, 2 RBI) RBI single to right field.
 
Both offenses exploded for four runs apiece in the 7th inning before Michael Carrano Jr. (2-5, 2B, 3 RBI, R, BB) lined a go-ahead RBI double out to left field in the top of the 8th, and the Cobras drove in three more insurance runs in the 9th inning to pull out the 13-9 win.
 
Freshman Cale Coursey (1.0 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 2 K, 2 BB) started the game on the mound before Alex McHale (4.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 6 K) entered in the 2nd inning, striking out six. Reliever Hunter Pudlo got a key, bases-loaded strikeout in the bottom of the 7th to earn the win, and freshman Mike Boyce (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 4 K, 4 BB) closed the game with two scoreless innings in relief.
