Box Score 2 CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 15 Parkland College Baseball team dropped one game and won one game in the NJCAA Division II Region 24 Pool play on Friday, May 10th. The Cobras (38-13) lost their opening game 7-3 to Lewis & Clark Community College (29-28) before bouncing back with a 12-4 win over Danville Area Community College (21-30) in game two. Will Applegate led the team with four RBI, and sophomore pitcher
Sam Bryan (8-1) earned the win in game two.

Up next, the Cobras have a rematch versus Lewis & Clark Community College tomorrow, May 11th. First pitch versus the Trailblazers is set for 11:00 a.m. at the Parkland College Baseball Field.

Game 1: Lewis & Clark Community College 7, No. 15 Parkland College 3

The Cobras struggled with leaving runners in scoring position and fell behind 2-0 in the top of the 2nd inning but battled back in the bottom of the 3rd when
Adison Worthman (1-3, R) scored on a groundout. Parkland powered ahead 3-2 in the 4th on a 2-run home run from
Scott Newman (1-4, HR, 2 RBI), but Lewis & Clark CC answered with a five-run 5th inning to regain the lead. The two offenses went cold the rest of the way as Parkland was outhit 9-4 in the game, and the Cobras fell to the Trailblazers 7-3.

Sophomore
William O'Gorman (7-1) suffered his first loss of the season in the start, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and two walks, striking out nine batters over six innings of work. Freshman
Cale Coursey (3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, K) pitched three shutout innings in relief.

Game 2: No. 15 Parkland College 12, Danville Area Community College 4

Parkland put runs on the board first in game two, taking the lead on a 2-RBI single from
Scott Newman in the bottom of the 2nd. A costly Danville Area CC error later in the inning allowed
Josh Outlaw (2-4, R), Newman (2-4, 2 RBI, 2 R), and
Luke Parmentier (R, BB) to score, and
Will Flanigan (RBI, R, BB) drove in
Will Applegate with a sacrifice fly to give the Cobras an early 6-0 lead. The Jaguars countered with two runs in the top of the 3rd, but Parkland put together a 3-run, 2-out rally in the bottom of the 4th to extend the lead to 9-2.

DACC cut into the deficit with a 2-run homer in the 5th, but RBI singles from Applegate (1-5, 4 RBI, 2 R) and
Adison Worthman (1-2, RBI, R, BB) in the bottom of the inning kept the lead at seven, and
Tylor Phommachanhom (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R) lifted an RBI double to left field in the bottom of the 6th to put Parkland up 12-4.

Sam Bryan (6.0 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 9 K, 3 BB) tossed 104 pitches in six innings of work, striking out nine batters before handing the ball to freshman
Lane Lorton (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 K), who pitched a shutout 7th inning to finish off a 12-4 Cobra win.
