ST. LOUIS, Mo. — November 8, 2025 — In a championship match that truly went down to the wire, the Parkland College men's soccer team fell to St. Louis Community College, 1–1, in the NJCAA DII Central District Championship final on Saturday afternoon. After 110 minutes of regulation and double-overtime play, the match was ultimately decided from the penalty spot, ending the Cobras' postseason run (St. Louis won 4–3 on penalty kicks).
St. Louis struck first in the 11th minute, but Parkland responded quickly, as Kaya Karabeyaz-Cowling netted the equalizer in the 20th minute off an assist from Gustavo Poli. From there, both sides battled through a physical, defensive matchup—one that saw limited scoring chances but constant intensity.
Goalkeeper Tresody Ondongo played all 110 minutes, recording two saves and anchoring the Cobras through the full regulation and extra time. Parkland generated five total shots, with Isaac Warren, Santiago Samame, and Josue Prado each contributing offensively in key moments late in the match.
Following the final whistle, head coach Mark Sikora reflected on both the result and the resilience of his team:
"Today was a tough reminder of how cruel our sport can be, one where you can do almost everything right and still not come away with the result. The players put in an effort that Parkland Athletics can be proud of, especially Marcos Campa, Jonas Martinez, and Josue Prado. Those three put us in position to win the game in the last moments and we just could not get over the line in double overtime. I am truly gutted for our sophomores, as this was the second straight year that we lost our chance to get to the National Tournament in a penalty shootout, but extremely proud of what they have done for our program as back-to-back Region 24 champions."
Parkland closes the 2025 season with an 11-8-1 overall record and its second consecutive Region 24 title.Â
