Box Score 2 QUINCY, Ill. – No. 15 Parkland baseball went 1-1 at John Wood Community College (21-19) on Saturday, April 12. The Cobras (23-11) won the first game to the Blazers thanks to 13 hits from the Parkland offense and a dominant performance from
Tyler Tylka on the mound. The Cobras struggled to stop the John Wood offense in the second game, falling short despite home runs from both
Adison Worthman and
Andrew Gallegos.Â

The Cobras got a commanding 8-0 lead in the first three innings, with hits from
John Shuey,
Mateo Casillas,
Michael Carrano Jr.,
Adison Worthman, and
Jayden Patel. Parkland continued to extend their lead, making the score 13-0 in the 5th inning thanks to an
Andrew Gallegos home run. The Blazers scored their only run in the bottom of the 5th, but Parkland pitcher
Tyler Tylka struck out three batters in the inning to seal the victory. Tylka (4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB) pitched all five innings, earning the win and striking out 10.Â
Mark Mennecke was 4-for-4,
Michael Carrano Jr. was 3-for-4, and
Jayden Patel was 3-for-3. Carrano Jr. led the Cobras with four RBI.Â

Parkland struck early with a three-run homer by
Adison Worthman in the top of the 1st inning, briefly giving the Cobras a 3-0 lead. That early lead quickly vanished as John Wood responded with four runs in the bottom half, then added five more in the second to take control. The Blazers continued to pile on runs in the next two innings, and the Cobras left a few runners stranded in the 4th and 5th innings to fall short in the final game of the regular season series.
Adison Worthman led the Parkland offense with two hits and three RBI.Â
Cale Coursey took the loss for the Cobras, allowing six hits and seven runs in 1.1 innings. Three other Cobra pitchers–
Lane Lorton,
Alex McHale, and
Jack Skidmore– threw in the loss.Â
Up next, the Cobras play at Division I Lake Land College (25-12) on Tuesday, April 15. The game is scheduled for 3:00 pm in Mattoon, Illinois.Â
