SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The No. 3 seed Parkland baseball team won over the No. 6 seed Danville Area Community College (17-30) in the first game of the Region 24 Tournament on Thursday, May 8. Parkland (33-17) outhit the Jaguars 16-7 in the win, and Cobra pitchers Gavin Parkerson and Cody DelFavero combined for 13 strikeouts.

The Cobras scored one in the bottom of the 1st inning when Michael Carrano Jr. hit a single to send Will Applegate home, and then Adison Worthman helped them add to their lead in the 2nd inning with a base hit to left field. Parkland continued to tack on runs, scoring another three in the 3rd inning to go up 5-0. The Jaguars managed their only run in the 5th inning, and the Cobras followed up with two more insurance runs in the 8th to secure the 7-1 victory. 
 
Will Applegate and Adison Worthman each had four hits and one RBI, and John Shuey added three hits and two RBI. Gavin Parkerson (2 BB, 9 K) earned the win on the mound, surrendering five hits and one run in six innings. Cody DelFavero (1 BB, 4 K) threw two innings, giving up two hits and zero runs. 

Up next, the Cobras will face No. 2 seed Lincoln Land Community College (33-17) in the Region 24 Tournament on Friday, May 9. The game is scheduled for 11:00 AM in Springfield, Illinois.
