Cobras Outslug Southwestern Illinois in 17-14 Battle

Parkland uses big middle innings to secure high-scoring road win

BELLEVILLE, Ill.—April 22, 2026—The Parkland College baseball team powered its way to a high-scoring victory on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Southwestern Illinois College 17-14 in a back-and-forth contest.

With the win, the Cobras improve to 28-15 overall on the season.

Parkland wasted no time getting on the board, scoring in each of the first two innings, but Southwestern Illinois answered early to keep the game tight. After a scoreless third and fourth, the Cobras broke the game open in the middle innings, plating 5 runs in the fifth and 5 more in the sixth to take control.

The offense stayed aggressive throughout, adding insurance late, including a four-run ninth inning to help hold off a late push from the home team.

In total, Parkland tallied 17 runs in one of its most productive offensive performances of the season, showcasing depth throughout the lineup in a game that featured constant momentum swings.

Southwestern Illinois kept pressure on with multiple scoring innings of its own, including a late surge, but the Cobras were able to maintain their edge and close out the win.

With the victory, Parkland continues its strong stretch of play heading into another key road matchup.

Up next, the Cobras will travel to East Peoria, Illinois to take on Illinois Central College on April 25, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM CST.
