Hot-shooting Parkland Women rout Rend Lake in season opener

The #5 Parkland College Women's Basketball team came out hot on Thursday as they shot past visiting Rend Lake 99-58 in the opener for both teams. The Cobras used a balanced attack in the first quarter as six player scored as PC built a 25-11 lead. The Cobras scored 28 points and shot 60% in the second quarter to push the lead to 53-32 at intermission. PC shot 57% in the first half to just 33% for the Warriors.

It was more of the same in the second half as PC won the half 46-36 and shot 55% for the contest and also made 18-24 from the line. RLC shot 33% from the field and 62% from the charity stripe.  Parkland had 5 players in double figures with Karlie Ziliak leading the way with 21 points and 5 assists.  Three players finished with 14 points apiece as Janiece Thomas had 14 points and 7 boards, Michah Tapscott had 14 points and 5 boards, while Alexus Cole came off the bench to add 14 points and dish out 5 assists.   Crystal Mathis tossed in 11 for the winning Cobras.  In addition to shooting well, PC had 25 assists and 17 steals while forcing the Warriors in to 32 turnovers.  Paige Rich led Rend Lake with 14 points.

Parkland (1-0) will be off until November 10 when they travel to Iowa to take on #1 Kirkwood and Iowa Central as part of the Kirkwood Eagle Classic.
