CHAMPAIGN, Ill.—March 3, 2026—The No. 10 Parkland College women's basketball team opened the Region 24 Tournament with a commanding 93-55 win over Kaskaskia College in the quarterfinal round Tuesday evening. With the victory, the Cobras improve to 24-6 on the season and advance to the Region 24 Semifinals.
Parkland established control early, building a 22-13 lead after the first quarter before exploding for 29 points in the second period to take a 51-27 advantage into halftime. The Cobras continued to push the pace in the second half, outscoring the Blue Angels 42-28 over the final two quarters to secure the 38-point victory.
Four Cobras finished in double figures, led by Sofia Perez with 23 points. Perez shot 10-of-19 from the field while also contributing 6 assists, 7 steals, and 4 rebounds in an all-around performance.
Stacie Vonderheide added 22 points on an efficient 9-of-13 shooting night, along with 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Siarah Brown chipped in 17 points, knocking down 3 three-pointers, while Yohangeli Guzman finished with 12 points and 2 steals.
Parkland shot 52.7 percent (39-74) from the field and forced 19 steals, creating consistent defensive pressure throughout the game.
With the win, the Cobras advance to the Region 24 Semifinals, where they will host No. 8 Lincoln Land Community College. Parkland enters the matchup as the tournament's No. 2 seed, while Lincoln Land holds the No. 3 seed, setting up a highly anticipated semifinal battle between two of the region's top teams.
Tipoff for the Region 24 Semifinal is scheduled for 6 PM CST on March 5.
