HICKORY, N.C.—March 19, 2026—In the NJCAA Division II National Championship quarterfinals Thursday afternoon, the No. 10 Parkland College women's basketball team fell to No. 2 Illinois Central College, 79-65. With the loss, the Cobras move to 25-8 on the season and will continue play in the tournament's consolation bracket.
Parkland kept the game competitive early, taking a 24-15 lead after the first quarter. However, Illinois Central responded in the second quarter and carried momentum into the second half, outscoring the Cobras 64-41 over the final three periods to secure the win.
Yohangeli Guzman led Parkland with 23 points on 10-of-20 shooting, adding 4 assists and 4 rebounds. Haley Collins provided a strong spark off the bench with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
Stacie Vonderheide recorded a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with 6 points and 2 steals, while Leigha Brown added 8 rebounds and 7 points in the effort. Sofia Perez chipped in 9 points and 5 rebounds.
As a team, Parkland struggled to find offensive consistency, shooting 33.8 percent (27-80) from the field and 18.2 percent (4-22) from three-point range. Despite the offensive challenges, the Cobras controlled the glass with 40 total rebounds.
