HICKORY, N.C.—March 17, 2026—After earning an at-large bid to the NJCAA Division II National Championship tournament, the No. 10 Parkland College women's basketball team made the most of the opportunity Tuesday evening, defeating No. 7 Lansing Community College, 84-63, in second-round action. With the win, the Cobras improve to 25-7 on the season and advance to the national quarterfinals.
Parkland came out strong, building a 27-19 lead after the first quarter and maintaining control throughout the game. The Cobras extended their advantage in the second quarter and never looked back, outscoring Lansing in every period en route to the 21-point victory.
Five Cobras scored in double figures in a balanced offensive effort. Stacie Vonderheide led the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds, recording a double-double while shooting an efficient 8-of-12 from the field.
Yohangeli Guzman added 18 points and a team-high 8 assists, while Leigha Brown contributed 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Siarah Brown finished with 13 points, and Sofia Perez chipped in 11 points along with 4 assists and 3 steals.
Parkland shot 53.4% (31-58) from the field and 42.1% (8-19) from three-point range, showcasing offensive efficiency against a tough Lansing squad.
Defensively, the Cobras held Lansing to 63 points while forcing key stops throughout the contest to maintain control.
With the victory, Parkland advances to the quarterfinal round, where they will face No. 2 Illinois Central College for the third time this season in a highly anticipated matchup between two familiar foes. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 PM EST.
