BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The Parkland women's soccer team fought Southwestern Illinois College to an overtime scoreless-tie on Thursday evening behind 15 saves from sophomore goalie
Kierra Dahlgren. The first draw of the season, the Cobras recorded their third straight shutout, and fifth overall.
"Playing SWIC always makes for a good games, and our girls put together a great performance tonight, said head coach
Tim Notz. "Even though we tied, 0-0, we gew into the game and got control using numerical superiority in our midfield. We are still working on fine tuning our connections from midfield to forward, but we created several goal-scoring opportunities tonight. Kierra our defensive unit played exceptional tonight, and got our third shutout in a row."
Earning her fifth shutout of the season, Dahlgren fended off Southwestern Illinois attacks throughout the 120 minutes. Tied for the second-most saves made by Dahlgren this season, the Cobra goalie turned away 15 scoring opportunities by the Blue Storm, while teammate
Beatriz Meneghin turned away the home team's only other shot on goal. Dahlgren's season-best save total came against Jackson on September 7 when she saved 18 shots.
Six different Cobras put shots for Coach Notz, as
Kayla Liggett,
Beatriz Meneghin,
Sarah Hohenstein,
Ali Hosey,
Mylena Do Prado and
Gabriela Schuster. The shots by Do Prado and Schuster each were on frame.
