Ryan Dooley scored a game high 30 points Saturday, to help the Parkland Women's Basketball team defeat Lincoln Land 68-65 in overtime in Springfield. The Cobras win, coupled with a Lincoln upset loss at John Wood, puts the Cobras in a tie for the M-WAC lead at the halfway point of the conference schedule. It also keeps the Cobras in the 3rd seed spot for the upcoming Region 24 tournament. A loss would have sent PC all the way down to the 6th seed.
After a back and forth affair early, PC would extend their lead to six at the break, as PC took a 28-22 lead into the locker room. The Cobras would extend their lead to as many as 13 points in the 3rd quarter and still led by 8 with just over 4 minutes remaining before the Loggers rallied. The rally was keyed by LLCC going 10-10 at the free throw line during that stretch. With the game time in the final seconds of regulation, PC had the ball but could not convert, forcing overtime.
It was a defensive struggle during the extra period but PC got several key stops to seal the victory. Dooley was the key for the Cobras as she was a perfect 8-8 at the line and grabbed 9 rebounds to go along with her 30 points.
Madelyn Brouwer scored 12 points and had 8 boards, several late in the game and in the overtime.
Micah Tapscott added 9 points, all from the free throw line, and had a game high 12 rebounds. The Cobras won their 4th straight game despite shooting an ice-cold 32% and committing 28 turnovers. PC did make 22-30 from the line and won the battle of the boards.
The win moves the Cobras to (17-5 4-1) ahead of a Valentine's Night show down with rival Illinois Central (19-6) starting at 5:30 in Champaign. Although not an M-WAC game, the contest will go a long way towards determining seeding for the upcoming Region 24 tournament. Lincoln Land now stands at (10-11 1-4) with the defeat. The two teams will meet again on Saturday March 3 at PC in the regular season finale for both teams.
